Italian fashion designer, founder of the “Valentino” fashion house, Valentino Garavani, has died at the age of 93 at his home in Rome.

The funeral ceremony will take place on January 23 at 11:00 in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, located in the center of Rome, Piazza della Repubblica, 8.

Valentino Garavani was born in northern Italy in 1932. After school, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Milan and at the school of the High Fashion Syndicate in Paris. In addition, he apprenticed with French fashion designers Jean Dessès and Guy Laroche. After returning to Italy, he opened his own sewing workshop in Rome. In the early 1960s, together with Giancarlo Giammetti, he founded the Valentino fashion house.

Valentino’s clients included Hollywood stars, including Audrey Hepburn, British Princess Margaret (Queen Elizabeth II’s younger sister), artist Marella Agnelli, and others.

In 1998, Garavani sold the fashion house to businessman Gianni Agnelli. However, the fashion designer continued to create collections for him for ten years. The last fashion show took place in Paris in 2008.
