Chairman of the Justice, Law, Democracy (AHD) Party, Member of Parliament Gudrat Hasanguliyev gave an interview to Elchi.az.
We present that interview:
-Gudrat bey, 36 years have passed since the January 20 tragedy. As a politician who was an active member of the National Liberation Movement, we would like to know your thoughts about that day.
– January 20 was a great tragedy for our people, and at the same time a great day of heroism. That day was the complete moral collapse of the Soviet regime. May God have mercy on all our martyrs. At that time, our people were isolated, and the world did not hear our voice. The day after the incident, on January 21, Heydar Aliyev, known in the world as a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Soviet Communist Party, showed great patriotism and courage and went to the Azerbaijani representation in Moscow with Ilham Aliyev, condemned this bloody crime, and was able to draw the world’s attention to the massacre of peaceful people. By seriously supporting the National Liberation Movement, by leaving the ranks of the Communist Party in July 1991, he made a great contribution to the collapse of the Communist Party and the Soviet Union. At the same time, I respectfully remember Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh, the religious leader who came to the fore of our people, who were factually leaderless at that time, and who organized the burial of our martyrs with great respect. I wish God’s mercy to those who have passed away and a long and healthy life to those who are alive.
-Gudrat bey, Reza Pahlavi proposed a constitutional monarchy state structure model for Iran. Can this be considered acceptable for Iran?
-Currently, the most suitable option for Iran may be the state structure of Great Britain. It would be the most successful option for Iran if the religious leader carried out this reform. The religious leader remains in the status of the King of Britain, the country adopts a parliamentary republic model, national republics are formed, and Iran becomes a federal state. But the main question is, will Khamenei agree to limit his powers? The constitutional monarchy state structure is the most ideal option for ensuring the transition to democracy for Muslim countries where there is no democracy. This way, bloody revolutions can be prevented.
-Will other peoples in Iran, besides the Persians, accept Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah who was expelled from the country?
-Reza Pahlavi does not make any promises regarding the national rights of other peoples. He would talk if advised. Therefore, he cannot gain the serious support of other peoples. He is also the heir of another dictator. But he grew up in the USA. If the US wants Iran to democratize, democracy can be established in Iran. However, this will take a lot of time and will not be very easy.
-Why shouldn’t the US want Iran to democratize?
-Because at this time, the national rights of other peoples living in Iran must be recognized, and Iran must at least become a federal country. This, in turn, is considered a threat to the integrity of Iran in the future. The USA needs Iran as a unitary state to confront Turkey and the Turkic states, and the Arab countries. It just wants to change the regime and have its own man rule Iran. Like in Venezuela. Therefore, it has not provided political support to national forces in Iran for many years. If it had been given, great changes would have taken place in Iran a long time ago. Also, a democratic Iran can quickly become one of the world’s powerful countries. Iran needs them not as a developed industrial country, but as a seller of raw materials and a market for their industrial products. You see the obstacles created for the development of Turkey, which is considered an ally. In addition, the will of the people must be taken into account in order to agree with democratic countries, but in authoritarian regimes that are nominally republics but are ruled alone, it is very easy to get one person to accept everything, especially Pahlavi, who has found refuge in the USA.
-Can the disruption of stability in Iran and the country’s descent into chaos spread to our country?
-Absolutely not. Although there are many problems waiting to be solved in our country, people believe that the President will implement reforms and support development through evolution. There is stability and peace in our country. Today, if you take a step away from the central streets in the big capitals of the West after dark, you can become a victim of serious crimes. There are streets in those capital cities that even the police do not dare to enter in the evening. Our people know this and are able to assess the situation in our country. At the same time, our citizens are eagerly awaiting the start of major reforms that will soon improve their living conditions and ensure greater protection of human rights and freedoms.
