Ukraine has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector, particularly in the capital Kyiv, after ongoing Russian attacks left thousands without electricity.
Elchi.az reports that President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking after a special cabinet meeting held in harsh winter conditions with night temperatures dropping to -20 degrees, announced the creation of a 24-hour task force to combat the effects of the attacks and worsening weather conditions.
Zelensky accused Moscow of deliberately using freezing temperatures as a weapon by targeting energy distribution facilities.
Donald Trump criticized Zelensky
US President Donald Trump claimed in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday that Ukraine was less willing to reach an agreement with Russia.
Trump, who claimed that it was Zelensky, not Russian President Vladimir Putin, who stopped the peace talks aimed at ending the nearly four-year war, directly answered “Zelensky” when asked why the talks did not yield results.
At talks held at Mar-a-Lago at the end of December last year, Zelensky said that 90 percent of the peace plan had been agreed, but that “difficult issues” related to territorial integrity and security guarantees had not yet been resolved.
