European Union (EU) Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that Greenland is part of NATO and stated that there are strong ties between Brussels and the capital Nuuk.
Elchi.az reports that Von der Leyen made statements to journalists after the weekly meeting of the EU Commission members.
Evaluating the US threat to Greenland, von der Leyen said: “Greenland belongs to its people. Therefore, it is up to them alone to make decisions on matters related to Denmark and Greenland.”
Stating that they are in constant contact with the Danish government, von der Leyen said: “We also listen to the needs of Greenlanders, we are in very close contact.”
Pointing out that Greenland is part of NATO, von der Leyen emphasized that the main principle of NATO is collective security.
