The Ministry of Internal Affairs has appealed to citizens regarding the increase in cases of fraud against elderly and lonely citizens.
According to the information provided to Elchi.az by the Press Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an increase in cases of fraud against elderly and lonely citizens has been observed in recent days.
Unknown persons, introducing themselves as children, grandchildren or close relatives, demand money from elderly people with false pretexts such as allegedly causing an accident or needing serious surgery.
It was reported that suspicious persons mainly call from foreign numbers and convey false information to citizens, insistently demanding that various amounts of money be sent urgently. In some cases, fraudsters specifically target elderly and lonely people, sending couriers to their addresses to try to obtain funds in cash or online.
In order to prevent such cases, citizens are advised to check the information provided in incoming calls, not to send money by believing unfamiliar persons or suspicious calls, and to immediately contact the 102 Call Center if they encounter suspicious cases.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on citizens to be careful and especially sensitive to such fraud attempts,” the statement said.
