US urges citizens to “leave Iran immediately”

The US has called on its citizens in Iran to “leave the country immediately,” citing ongoing protests and security risks.
Elchi.az reports that the US Virtual Embassy in Tehran issued a security alert urging US citizens to “make plans to leave Iran without the need for assistance from the Washington administration.”
The statement cited ongoing protests and security risks in the country, saying, “Leave Iran immediately. If you cannot leave, go to a safe place in your home or another safe building.”
White House spokeswoman Caroline Livitt said US President Donald Trump prioritizes diplomacy with Iran, but always discusses the use of military force.
Protests in Iran
The protests in Iran, which began on December 28, 2025 by shopkeepers in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, have spread to many cities in the country. Although no official statement has been made about the number of dead or injured in the protests, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) published a report on the 16th day of the protests, stating that a total of 646 people, including 133 security officers, one prosecutor, and 9 minors under the age of 18, died and 10,721 people were detained. Due to the increasing violence and police intervention in the protests, internet connection was cut off nationwide on January 9.
