Medvedev: If Trump doesn’t hurry, Greenland may join Russia through a referendum

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, claimed that if US President Donald Trump does not act quickly enough to buy Greenland, Greenland may decide to join Russia through a referendum.
Elchi.az reports that Medvedev assessed the US initiatives regarding Greenland in a statement on his social media account.
Medvedev stated that the US buying Greenland could be good for changing the “world climate” and noted:
“But Trump must hurry. According to unconfirmed information, a sudden referendum may be held in a few days, and all 55,000 residents of Greenland may vote to join Russia. Then it would all be over.”
In response to questions about Greenland, Trump said: “If we don’t buy Greenland, Russia or China will. That won’t happen as long as I’m president. Military presence is not enough. You need to own it.”
Trump noted the presence of Chinese and Russian submarines and other warships around Greenland, saying they would not allow it and would “acquire Greenland one way or another.” When asked whether their desire to seize Greenland would negatively affect NATO unity, Trump replied, “They need us more than we need them.”
Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark, had previously rejected proposals involving the transfer of sovereignty to the United States.
