Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui, who is on duty at the International Space Station, has captured images of the Northern Lights, one of the unique natural phenomena of the Earth, from space.
Elchi.az reports that Yui, who recorded this fascinating natural phenomenon observed in the polar regions, shared the images he took on his social media account. The astronaut said in his post, “I am very happy to be able to capture this moment. But what made me happiest was imagining the smile that would appear on the faces of everyone watching these images.”
The Northern Lights, also known as aurora borealis, are created as a result of the interaction of charged particles from the Sun with the Earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere. This interaction creates dazzling light waves in colors ranging from green to purple in the sky.
Yui’s images taken from space have created the opportunity to see this natural wonder from a different angle.
