Australian Bushfires: ‘Prepare for the worst case scenario’ warning

Bushfires in the Australian state of Victoria are spreading due to extreme hot weather and strong winds, prompting a warning to the public to prepare for ‘property damage or the worst’. Record temperatures across the country are further complicating firefighting efforts.
Elchi.az reports that firefighters battling fires near Longwood in Northern Victoria are facing challenging conditions as winds strengthen. A full fire ban has been declared across the state, and ‘catastrophic’ or ‘extreme’ fire warnings have been issued for all areas.
County Fire Authority (CFA) Chief Jason Heffernan said on Friday that yesterday’s weather conditions were extreme, but today it has reached catastrophic levels. Temperatures in the state are expected to reach 42 degrees Celsius.
