US: Annexing Greenland to the US is a national security priority

The US administration has announced that the discussion topic is the options for annexing Greenland to the US territory. The inclusion of military intervention among the possible options has caused criticism from Denmark and other European countries.
Elchi.az reports that US President Donald Trump has been revealed to be considering various options for annexing Greenland to the US. The White House stated that this process is a “national security priority” for the US.
“The military option is also being considered”
The White House stated that President Trump and his team are working on various scenarios towards this goal, and that the US military is also an option within the powers of the commander-in-chief.
Support for Denmark from Europe
The leaders of Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Denmark emphasized in a joint statement that only the people of Denmark and Greenland can decide on the future of Greenland. The statement highlighted the principles of NATO and the United Nations.
Call from the Greenland administration
After the statements, Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen called for a “respectful dialogue”, stating that Greenland’s status is based on international law and the principles of territorial integrity.
US officials stated that models such as the acquisition of Greenland or a free partnership agreement are also on the agenda. The US State Department stated that security concerns in the Arctic region should be resolved jointly with NATO allies.
