Two killed, 30 injured in police attack in Iran

Two people were killed and 30 more injured after protesters opened fire on security forces in the cities of Lurdigan and Bakhtiyariyeh in southwestern Iran.

Elchi.az reports that the “Fars News Agency” reported this.

It is noted that several protesters used firearms and started shooting at the police at the height of the protest. According to reports, the protesters also damaged several administrative buildings.

Iranian authorities have previously stated that they recognize the right of the population to protest, but emphasized the importance of distinguishing protests from riots.

It should be reminded that protests in Iran began in late December 2025 due to the devaluation of the local currency, the rial. After that, the head of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Farzin, resigned. He was replaced by Abdunnasir Hemmati.

Protests in several Iranian cities turned into clashes with the police, and slogans against the current political system were chanted. Casualties were recorded among both security forces and protesters.
