“Ukraine’s appetite is growing” – Orban

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has expressed his confusion over Ukraine’s request to allocate $800 billion from Western countries for reconstruction work over 10 years.

Elchi.az reports that the Prime Minister called it an astonishing amount, making it clear that Budapest will not contribute to Kyiv’s financing.

“Ukrainians have submitted a new bill. This time for $800 billion. This is how much money they will need over the next 10 years to keep their country running. A surprising amount.”

He commented on the statement of Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka, who announced on January 3 that EU countries’ representatives had agreed to allocate $800 billion in financial aid to Kyiv over 10 years. According to the Ukrainian authorities, this should be part of the so-called peace plan that they presented at negotiations in the USA on December 24.

“That is why in December, Brussels officials tried to freeze Russian assets at all costs and wanted to fundamentally revise the EU’s next budget. Ukraine’s appetite is growing,” Orban noted.

At a large press conference in Budapest on January 5, he stated that in 2026, Hungary does not intend to finance Ukraine or support the continuation of the armed conflict there.

Ukraine’s so-called 20-point peace plan envisages, among other things, a global aid package and the creation of $800 billion to help rebuild the country.
