Trump’s Venezuela statement: No war, no elections

US President Donald Trump has stated that new elections will not be held in Venezuela within 30 days and claimed that the country first needs to be “stabilized.”
Elchi.az reports that in an interview with NBC News, Trump said that Washington’s role in the country would be long-term after a US military intervention that detained Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Stating that elections will not be held in Venezuela within a month, Trump said, “We have to fix the country first. There can be no elections. It is not possible for the people to vote.”
Trump claimed that “a process must be followed and the country must be stabilized” for the elections.
He also denied claims that the US is at war with Venezuela, saying, “We are fighting drug dealers. We are fighting those who empty their prisons, drug addicts, and mental hospitals into our country.” Trump also stated that the US could subsidize the work of oil companies to rebuild Venezuela’s energy infrastructure and that the project could be completed in less than 18 months. “A very large amount of money will have to be spent. The oil companies will spend this money, and then we will reimburse them, or it will be reimbursed through the revenue generated,” President Trump said.
Sanctions against Rodriguez will be reviewed again
Trump stated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chief Advisor Stephen Miller, and Vice President JD Vance will be among those overseeing the US role in the Venezuela process, emphasizing that he will make the final decision.
Claiming that Venezuelan Interim President Delcy Rodriguez is “cooperating” with US officials but had no contact before Maduro’s arrest, Trump said that a decision on whether to continue sanctions against Rodriguez will be made soon. When asked if there was any agreement with any Venezuelan official to arrest Maduro, Trump replied, “Actually, yes, because many people wanted to reach an agreement, but we decided to do it this way.” Trump also claimed that, contrary to media reports, the opposition leader Maria Corina Machado receiving the Nobel Peace Prize did not affect his decisions. The US President stated that his base supports his decisions and that Congress is aware of the operation against Venezuela.
