Politico: Venezuela is required to stop selling oil to US rivals.
Elchi.az reports that, citing sources, Politico reports that the Trump administration has made four demands on Venezuela’s interim leader, Delsi Rodriguez, which Nicolas Maduro has rejected.
Rodriguez is expected to take steps to prevent drug trafficking and remove “agents hostile to Washington,” including Iran and Cuba, from Venezuela. Washington also demands that Rodriguez stop supplying oil to US rivals and hold free elections in Venezuela. Politico reports that as a result, the Trump administration expects Rodriguez to resign.
The publication noted that no specific deadline has been set for Rodriguez to meet these requirements. However, Trump has previously stated that presidential elections in Venezuela will not be possible “until order is restored.”
The newspaper noted that Delsi Rodriguez has long been a supporter of Nicolas Maduro and a supporter of socialist views. However, according to the newspaper’s sources, Washington is confident that it will meet US requirements.
On January 5, Venezuelan Vice President Delsi Rodriguez officially began serving as interim president after Maduro was captured by US forces and was sworn in before the National Assembly.
Prior to that, Trump threatened Rodriguez with paying a “very high price” if she did not make “correct decisions.”
