The Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is suspending the activities of its specialized counter-terrorism groups in Yemen.
Elchi.az reports that the Arab media reported this with reference to the ministry’s statement.
“The decision was taken on the UAE’s own initiative in order to ensure the safety of personnel and in coordination with international partners,” the statement said.
It is noted that since 2015, the UAE has participated in the activities of the Arab coalition in Yemen to support legitimate authorities, fight terrorist organizations and ensure stability in the region. The main military participation of the UAE Armed Forces ended in 2019 after all tasks were completed, and further participation was limited to counter-terrorism groups only.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that this decision was taken taking into account the current stage and is in line with the UAE’s commitment to supporting security and stability in the region.
