China’s military exercises around Taiwan, over which it claims sovereignty, continue for the second day.
Elchi.az reports that Captain Li Xi, a spokesman for the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), which is responsible for the region where Taiwan is located, said that ground units subordinate to the command conducted long-range fire drills against targets located in the waters north of the island in the morning.
On the other hand, a separate statement from the command stated that the exercises would include simulations of attacks against naval targets, as well as air defense and anti-submarine operations.
Yesterday, the Eastern Theater Command announced the start of a comprehensive military exercise involving destroyers, frigates, fighter jets, bombers, and unmanned aerial vehicles in the northern, southwestern, southeastern, and eastern regions of Taiwan Island.
The exercise, codenamed “Joint Sword 2025,” is said to be aimed at air-sea combat readiness patrols, achieving comprehensive superiority, blockading key ports and territories, and full-scale deterrence against interference from outside the island chain. At the same time as the military exercise, the coast guard of China’s Fujian province, located opposite Taiwan, announced that it was conducting “law enforcement patrols” around Taiwan Island.
