The search for the Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight, one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history, will continue on Tuesday, December 30, more than a decade after the plane disappeared with 239 people on board.
Elchi.az reports that a new schedule has been set for the search, which was launched earlier this year by Ocean Infinity, a UK and US-based underwater robotics company, but was suspended in April due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Malaysian Ministry of Transport announced that seabed search operations will be carried out intermittently over a 55-day period starting on December 30.
One of the world’s largest search operations
The plane’s disappearance triggered one of the world’s largest underwater search operations. A multinational effort led by Australia and including Malaysia and China searched approximately 120,000 square kilometers of seabed in a remote area of the Southern Indian Ocean. These efforts ended unsuccessfully in January 2017. A three-month search conducted by Ocean Infinity in 2018 also yielded no results. Over the years, some fragments that washed ashore on the coasts of Africa and islands in the Indian Ocean have been confirmed to belong to the missing plane. Efforts have been made to narrow down the possible location of the plane by analyzing the routes these fragments traveled. Although the Malaysian Ministry of Transport did not provide details about the location of the new search area, it stated that the work will be carried out at a target point where the probability of finding the plane is considered to be the highest.
