The famous Iranian wrestler Amir Reza Masoumi in the heavyweight category will sign a contract with the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation in the coming days and will participate in competitions as part of the national team.
Elchi.az reports that Iranian media has reported about this.
It was noted that the process is prolonged because the Iranian Wrestling Federation did not give its consent:
“Due to the Iranian Wrestling Federation’s failure to issue a letter of consent, Masoumi will be able to compete for Azerbaijan starting in 2027. However, his and the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation’s main intention is to participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.”
This news has been met with dissatisfaction in the Iranian media and sports community, and some have even accused Masoumi of treason.
According to some media outlets, the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation will pay the Iranian wrestler a monthly salary of $22,000.
It should be noted that some time ago, Mohammad Banna, the former head coach of the Iranian national Greco-Roman wrestling team, reached an agreement to lead the national team after negotiations with the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
