During 2010-2024, there was no significant increase in the share of forests and specially protected natural areas in the country.
Elchi.az reports with reference to Oxu.az that the specific weight of forest areas in the total land area has remained unchanged at 12 percent from 2010 to 2024.
The share of specially protected natural areas in the country’s territory was 10.2 percent in 2010, and has been stable at 10.3 percent since 2015.
Looking at the internal division of protected areas, structural changes are observed:
– The share of state nature reserves decreased from 2.4 percent in 2010-2015 to 1.4 percent after 2020;
– The share of national parks increased from 3.6 – 3.7 percent to 4.9 percent during the same period;
– The share of state nature sanctuaries decreased from 4.2 percent to 4 percent.
The share indicator of mountain areas that are important for biodiversity and protected has also remained stable at 6.6 percent during 2015-2024.
